Creating Editorial Edge
For years, I have served as a useful source to those seeking inspiration, help, or advice. Kind of like a personal hype-woman sparking motivation for someone behind the scenes. I finally decided to own that role and be intentional about this work and my passion to help others begin to create their own stories. I started writing about my passions, my thoughts, and my experiences navigating creative outlets that have sincerely changed my life. And I'm here to ignite those interests for all of you.
I founded Editorial Edge by Christine Harris with a mission to give others a taste of what goes on in my mind, to bring others along with my journey as a writer, and create a sense of community amongst us all along the way. I started drafting my first real novel in the Spring of 2019, aka the end of my sophomore year in college. I'm currently a senior at the University of California, Berkeley majoring in Rhetoric with a concentration on Narrative and Images, and minoring in Public Policy. I say that to give background as to why I started this brand and this journey.
Spring of 2019 was the first semester I had in my college years where my dad was no longer in my life. During the finals week of the Fall 2018 semester, my dad passed away. It is with no surprise that his death sparked something in me that wanted to do more with my life, that wanted to create something that will last way beyond my own death. Morbid - I know - but very true and real. Thus birthed my first writing project: The Occult Project. My *hopefully* debut novel within the Young Adult Fantasy genre and market.
Fast forward to today, (it's currently May 23rd, 2020 as I edit this website), where I have launched Editorial Edge, my brand, my blog, my videos -encompassing the thoughts, emotions, and journey I have decided to make for myself. It's always daunting to put yourself out there into the world, to make something of yourself with no initial idea as to what this will create but that's what's exciting about this.
In my life, I've become a pioneer for my community - creating outlets and bringing people together. In high school, I became the National Debate Champion - the first in my city to ever achieve this level of success and recognition. I became the first in my family to attend university. The Founder of a womxn's political group on campus as well as sit on the Executive Board of the UC Berkeley NAACP Chapter in its first founding year. Firsts aren't something I'm new too, its actually always been something that invited me in. And that's what I want to instill in this brand, in this community, and throughout all my platforms - an assurance that you will be the next big innovator, creator, and influencer to make an impact on your community. To never be afraid of being first.
I invite you all to explore the blog, read something interesting, and feel free to reach out if you would like to collaborate on a project together. Check out my first EVER Youtube video linked above and get the chance to get to know me even more.
Well, I'm Christine and this is Editorial Edge.
Until next time,
